Traffic stop leads to squad car hit, gunfire

A routine traffic stop turned into gunfire Thursday afternoon.

It happened off of North Cedar Street in Galesburg just before 4 p.m.

Galesburg Police Department attempted to perform a traffic stop. 

As the officer was getting out of the passenger side -- the suspect swerved around -- hitting the passenger door of the squad car which then hit the officer. 

Shots were then fired but no one was hit.

The suspects car went a short distance and then crashed into a utility pole.

They were taken into custody and one officer was transported to OSF Saint Mary's for injuries. 

He was then treated and released.

The incident is still under investigation.
