Tugfest brings the Quad Cities together for friendly tugging competition

The friendly rivalry between LeClaire and Port Byron commences once again at Tugfest 2018.

It starts Thursday, Aug. 9 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 11.

In its 32nd year, Tugfest is a challenge where 25 people on each side of the river try to pull rope as far as they can as a team.

Thursday is carnival night in Port Byron, while the fireworks show is Friday night on the river. The kids tug event gets things going Saturday before the main event at noon.

Currently, Illinois holds the all-time series 20-11, winning nine of the last ten years.

Matt Russell, tug-master of ceremonies, joins Local 4 News to share more.
