A routine traffic stop has brought the end of a crime spree, according to Illinois State Police.

On Monday, Illinois State Police observed a driver commiting multiple traffic violations in East Moline and pulled the drivers over at the intersection of Route 5 and Barstow Road in East Moline.

While conducting the stop, police noticed the driver had a suspended license and had a warrant out for his arrest. Police also found a large amount of stolen goods in the car as well.

Police also tell Local 4 News it was discovered that the two men were on a trip from Arizona to Indiana. While on the trip, they would stoop at multiple retail stores, load up an empty backpack with merchandise and leave the store without paying for the merchandise.

The stolen merchandise is valued at thousands of dollars.

The two men arrested are, Chris J. Shreve, 44, South Bend, Indiana on charges of obstruction of justice, possession of stolen property, wanted on warrant, and driving while license suspended.

David A. Kovacs, 50, Phoenix, AZ on charges of possession of stolen property, illegal transportation of alcohol.

They are both being held in Rock Island County Jail on $75,000 bond.
