University of Iowa prepares for Mollie Tibbetts vigil

At 7 p.m. students at the University of Iowa will come together in Hubbard Park to remember one of their own: 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts.

After investigators announced they had found Mollie’s body yesterday, two student groups — the University of Iowa Student Government and University of Iowa Dance Marathon — came together to plan a vigil.

The event has more than one thousand shares on Facebook andh undreds of people are expected to come out.

Junior Katie Kinzler is one of those people. She’s known Mollie since high school. Katie says she was actually away in Milwaukee last month when Mollie first went missing, so she wasn’t able to personally help with the search.

But she did help hang up posters in Milwaukee and share Mollie’s photo on Facebook. Now Katie said the hard part is taking all of that down.

She said she deleted her Facebook post yesterday. That’s when she truly realized the search was over.

“I know if we would have been able to bring Mollie home alive that would have been a joyous moment for me, but it was really hard having to take down a missing persons post for her,” Katie said.

We will have full coverage tonight on Local 4 News at 10.
