The tech industry doesn’t include a lot of women, but a conference in Davenport is trying to help bring change to that status-quo.
Eastern Iowa Community College is hosting the fourth year of the Women in Information Technology conference.
It brings together those working in IT and those interested in technology-based careers.
“To bring new women into Information Technology because there are hundreds of thousands of job openings available right now and only two in ten people working in IT currently are women,” said EICC IT faculty Roberta Osmers.
Organizers told Local 4 News they want to show women it’s not as intimidating as they might think.
Osmers said, “They think that perhaps they aren’t technical enough and what they don’t realize is there are so many positions in IT that don’t require the high technology requirements.”
The conference also provides sessions on different trends seen in the industry and resources available to help women working in IT.
