The National Football League is celebrating its roots by announcing some of the 2019 NFL draft picks in the cities that were home to the league’s inaugural teams, including Rock Island, IL. Back in 1920, the Rock Island Independents became one of the league’s first teams and on September 26th of that year participated in the first football game involving an NFL team when they defeated the St. Paul Ideas 48-0 at Douglas Park in Rock Island.
The City of Rock Island is planning a celebration around the announcement of that draft pick on April 27th at Augusta College and Local 4 News is providing extensive coverage as the NFL returns to the Quad Cities. Welcome to The Draft in Rock Island.
Rock Island is hosting a FREE live hometown event to announce 2019 NFL Draft picks!
The entire community is invited to join in celebration on April 27th at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletic Complex at Augustana College.
