It’s Iowa-UNI nestled between Iowa State and Wisconsin. All the makings of a trap.
But these Hawkeyes aren’t expected to fall for it.
Let’s get right to the predictions.
Celebrity prediction
The Hawkeyes’ all-time leader in receptions returns for a second season of picks.
Kevonte Martin-Manley: Iowa 28, Northern Iowa 0
Hawkmania
Steve Batterson: Iowa 24, Northern Iowa 7
With Wisconsin on the horizon and Ivory Kelly-Martin and Ihmir Smith-Marsette both expected to sit this one out to heal injuries, expect an efficient but not flashy win in the Hawkeyes’ final tune-up before the start of Big Ten play. I do expect Iowa to work to gain confidence in the passing game early in this one. Northern Iowa has enough skill to keep this close, but expect the strength of Iowa’s line play to wear UNI down as the game progresses in a scenario which will lead the Hawkeyes to an unusually comfortable win against an opponent that has taken Iowa into the fourth quarter in its last three visits to Kinnick.

Irrelevant prediction
@Hawkologist
And finally, the totally irrelevant prediction based on playing EA Sports’ NCAA Football 2004 on a PS2, as is the tradition since 2015.
Ryan Jaster: Hawkeyes 37, Northern Iowa 14. What didn’t fit in the tweet below is that there were six turnovers — three by each team.
This week’s totally irrelevant prediction: #Hawkeyes 37, UNI 14. One back with 4 rushing touchdowns, including a 72-yarder on the first play. Defense delivers 7 sacks & only gives up a garbage time TD. Other score was on a fake FG. A safety with :07 left is the cherry on top. pic.twitter.com/MVJs6PhFwn— HawkeyeHQ.com’s Ryan Jaster (@Hawkologist) September 15, 2018
Prognosis: We’re almost 10 years removed from the famous — infamous? — 17-16 Hawkeyes win that required two late blocked field goals to secure. Time heals all wounds, and so UNI isn’t an upset special for even one of the experts above. No pain predicted.
