We’re tracking a significant weather maker that will come ashore along the West coast within the next 24 hours.

This storm is likely going to cause some serious traffic troubles around the Quad Cities (and Iowa and Illinois for that matter) by Sunday.  That’s poor timing with so many people heading home after the holiday weekend.

The storm rolls in late Saturday night and Sunday morning.  We’ll first see a mix of rain and snow, and that quickly changes over to all snow.  It’s too early to say exactly what we’ll get in the Quad Cities, but parts of the Midwest are likely to receive 4 to 6 inches of snow.

Winds will be up too as the powerful storm races through the Midwest.

Traffic conditions will be at their worst Sunday afternoon and night.

If you do have travel plans for late this weekend, and leaving Saturday is an option, it’d be a good idea to consider that now.

As the storm comes over land we’ll start getting more and more reliable forecast data, and that means the next 24 hours will be important to fine-tune the forecast details.

The attached picture shows the best chance for more than 4″ of snow is just West of the Quad Cities.
