Late holiday weekend travel could be tricky around Quad Cities

Slick travel conditions on Sunday

QUAD CITIES - Our holiday weekend is off to a fine weather start.  While it is a bit chilly Wednesday night there's no snow or ice out there right now.

By the end of the weekend it could be a much different story.  A strong storm will be rolling through the Midwest on Sunday and it could lead to quite a bit of snow for parts of Iowa.

In the Quad Cities rain breaks out Sunday and then changes over to a mix of rain/snow before going over to all snow.

It's too early to say just how much we'll get, but accumulations around parts of our area are likely.

If you're heading back to the Quad Cities on Sunday, be ready for snow covered roads.  And if you have family in town and they're planning on leaving Sunday, make sure they know we could have snow falling around our area for the end of the weekend.  Travel will likely be impacted across most of Iowa on Sunday!

The picture shows one of our forecast model solutions for Sunday evening, and it depicts heavy snow across parts of Iowa.
